New Years un-resolutions

I don't try to make resolutions anymore. I never keep them so why delude myself into thinking I will. I will however list a few things I would like to accomplish this coming year. Will I? Well tune in here and find out.

They are, in no particular order:

Of course I'd like to lose some pounds around the middle..been working on it a little but would like to get into it a bit more.

Draw more and post more here.

Get Armadillo Junction up and running as a continuing strip.

Get my new house finished... it's happening but taking way longer than I'd like.

Hang with my kids a bit more.

Take my wife out on more dates.

Read more books and watch less tv.

There are probably other things I'd like to try and do but I can't recall them at the moment. I don't think it's an unrealistic list of goals do you? Anyway, we're going to be going out and seeing in the New Years with friends and/or family. I hope it's a good year coming. All the best to whoever reads this..I appreciate your visits.

See you in 2007.

Perhapanauts fan art post #2

Here's some more fan art I sketched up this weekend for one of the best comics out there..the PERHAPANAUTS.

This is Big (the bigfoot) fighting some weird mutant worm thing.

This is Choopie (the chupacabra) with his gameface on. Kicking back playing some video games during his down time.

Two pics I took in January of '05 right after digging out of the snow the blizzard left on our doorstep. Thought I'd post them up now that Ol' Man Winter is making his way to the Northeast.

Drew Tuesday 3

The third installment..albeit a little late in the day.

Here's POWER fighting some sort of alien or demon or something.

A POWER cover design.

Another Crash Badicoot drawing.

I'm trying to get Drew to do some sequential stuff for me to post. Thanks for checking in.

Happy Birthday HUDSON

Happy Thanksgiving folks!! I was thinking back this morning and realized it was one of my characters b-day today. Way back in 1982 I drew the first strips of Hudson Rock. Hudson was the name of the painted rock my 7th grade french teacher used as a door stop. Hudson was named after the movie star Rock Hudson..duh.
That's pretty much where the comparison ends though. I had plans to incorporate Hudson into the Armadillo Junction strip once it got cranking... wellllll we all know where that went. I probably will still work him in but I thought in honor of his birthday I'd post some strips up today before I get to the turkey fest. I popped thewse 3 strips together this morning using old material (which I'll post on another day). Enjoy.

Illustration Friday-Thanksgiving

Since I may not get to post something new I'm posting something old. I did this for work. A client needed another design for the annual basketball clinic. I swiped the pose from the Tasmanian Devil playing B-ball and adapted it to a turkey for the Thanksgiving theme the clinic uses. It printed in 1 color when completed.

Drew Tuesday 2

A second installment of Drew Tuesday. Truthfully he's got enough drawings done I could do a whole blog of just his stuff.. but I don't want his head getting too big. HAHA.

Besides drawing my son's other passion is video games. Crash Bandicoot is his favorite. This is one of his renditions.

Here's an older picture he did of Aunt May's favorite nephew making a quick change in an alley.

The Ultimate Avengers Drew Style.

Power foiling another jewelry store robbery.

More from the sketchbook

A couple of older sketches to start the week here. I really hope to get some more 'Dillo Strips up soon. Wish me luck.

You know sometimes when you start sketching you're really not sure where you're going with the drawing? This was one of those times.. not sure if he's an alien sentry, a space going frog or what. But I liked him enough to share.

This fella is some aging astronaut I sketched up during a July 4th cookout. When I don't pay enough attention to things my people tend to look as though they are leaning or listing to the side... he's one of theose.

Hope to maybe do some sketching tonite but HEROES is on so we'll see how that goes. That's my Monday night tv show. If you're not watching it you should be. Later gators.

Sketchy sketches

I did something I haven't done in quite some time last night. I actually got to sit down and just sketch. Was fun. So here's what I accomplished in an evening.

This is the character Molly from the comic The Perhapanauts by Todd and Craig. If you're not reading it.. shame! Go pick up your copy now.

Here's my Tiki Surfer. Sorry if the surfboard looks wrong.. I didn't bother getting any reference.

This is a sketch of my son's comic character Power. He says I made him look older than he draws him. It was a nice warm up excercise though.

A quickie sketch of E-Man. I picked up the entire first run on eBay and now there's a new series out by the same creators.

And finally here's Arnie from Armadillo Junction my own comic strip/book character. He's looking a little more rounded out than previous drawings. Probably because I haven't drawn him in such a long time he evolved again.

Click on any image for a larger veiw and as always feel free to leave comments.

Self Portrait 'toon

Here's the sketch I did during work.. shhhhh. This is sorta kinda what I look like.

This is the inked version. I switched out my avatars on Blambot and on Flickr and the blog to a version of this.

And since penguins seem to be popular I figured I'd pop one on here that I did as part of a side project a few months back. My penguin would rather read a good crime novel than dance around on the ice any day.

Drew Tuesday

Taking a page from Ward over at the Ward-O-Matic blog and his Ava Thursday, I'm introducing Drew Tuesday. My son the budding comic artist (animator?) has a plethora of things that I could post. So I am.

This is one of his superheroes he calls Power.

This is a poster for POWER: All Villians Unite. It has each villian labeled for easy reference. Not sure if he's working on an actual story for this but I'll keep you posted on that.

His little Spidey sketch caught my eye as I was gathering a few things for this first Drew Tuesday. I like the slightly surprised look Spidey has. I say he draws the webs much better than I did at his age. My Spider-Man always looked like he was wearing a grid.

Illustration Fridays..missed

So for two weeks running I've been trying to get something together for Illustration Friday and work has just kept me so busy I don't get to complte the idea in time. So I'm posting what I did get done here. The first one was for "WIND". The little critter started life as a teddy bear but I wanted a tail on him so he evolved into a racoon.

This one was meant to have a noir-ish feel to it for "SMOKE". Never finished the lady friend of our intrepid P.I. Been reading too many Hard Case Crime novels I guess. I still plan of finishing them and will post the finals when I do.

Comments would be nice on these or any of my previous posts... all the best.

So I got an email the other day from Jim Stafford over at the Bran Man site inviting me to contribute to the new Bran-Man collection book. They asked for the above two designs.. not bad since I've only made 3 altogether.
So thanks, Jim.

Also I'm gonna plug a cool Podcast I've recently discovered. Coverville is put out by Brian Ibbott and as the site describes it: "Coverville is a podcast, produced three times a week, that focuses on cover songs - a new rendition of a previously recorded song. The show is produced and hosted by Brian Ibbott, in his home in Arvada, Colorado - about 10 miles West of Denver.

The show features a combination of music and information about the music, delivered in a very relaxed, informal style. On average, each show runs about 35 minutes and features six selections. Information about the performing artist, and source album is provided, along with information about the artist being covered."

It's available as downloadable MP3 files from the site or through iTunes.

Another great Podcast is Vegas Vics Tiki Lounge offering up some fabulous lounge, surf and exotica music. It's also available through iTunes or you can hook up through the site.

I liked the composition of this one..should have played with the depth of field a bit to blur out the background. Maybe next time.

Happy Anniversary hunny bunny

Ok , I've been married 15 years as of TODAY to the most wonderful woman. She has to be to put up with me for 15 years. What do you get your loved one for a 15 year anniversary you may ask. I'll tell you. You give the above logo. Yes the 15 year anniversary is the custom logo anniversary.
Anyways, I did up this logo for my wife's 4 wheeler quadrunner, which she had named Cricket. I had said logo embroidered on a hat for her and screen printed the design on several shirts for her to wear about town, or while riding through the woods on our land. If she'll let me take her picture I'll post a shot of her in her gear aboard the real Cricket.

After 15 years she's learned I still have a few surprises left in me.

Here's to 15 more and beyond, hun!!!

This is cool.

While shopping around at Lowes trying to hunt for stuff for the new up-coming house my wife and I came across this cool desk lamp. We bought two. LED light bulb is pretty bright and he's fully posable too.
Thought I'd share.

On vacation this week so there will probably be some more art postings.
Stay Tuned.

Been sketching now and then again. I'll post more as I go but here's one I did while my son was at Boy Scouts and I was waiting for him.

I'll catch up with all the news and gossip in another posting.

Not "Our" Dog....

Well it's been a couple weeks since we brought Boondoggle home. Seems he's taken a HUGE shine to Babes, my daughter, he follows her everywhere, pretty much ignores me and my son, and whines when they are apart. Now the trick is to train him or bribe him into liking the rest of the family.
Pretty much I want him to at least like my son and go to him. My son is a huge dog lover and it hurts him to get snubbed by the "family" pet. I can take or leave it to be honest. Didn't grow up with a dog and inherited my wife's dog when we got married. Abby passed away a few years back and since then we've had the cat, Jazz, as well as some fish, and a couple of frogs one of whom now resides at my sister's house.
Hopefully I'll be back to posting art and comics soon.

All the best to my "fans".. bwahahahahaha!

Later.

Our new Addition

This is Boondoggle our new family addition. We picked him up Saturday from a local breeder. So far he's been excellent. He doesn't bark.. and I mean at all. Haven't heard a peep out of him. Except for a small accident in the bedroom he's been a keen pet. Boon's still getting used to his new surroundings and Jazz our tabby cat is getting used to the new addition as well, by keeping as far away as possible. Guess the cat figures he's safe upstairs as Boon's legs are too short for him to scale the stairwell easily.
Haven't posted much as of late, not that anyone notices since I don't have a huge hitlist yet. Started an account over on Flickr in the hopes I'll be posting some photos to share.
Be sure to check out the Atland site , a great strip done by Blambot's own Nate Piekos.
