Reading List

I've been keeping a log of the books I've read so far this year. 26 in all with the hope of a few more before New Years. It's a mixed list. Feel free to peruse it and I can recommend each and every title as worth the read.
I used to be a sci-fi/ fantasy only reader but as I aged I became interested a variety of genres. Mystery, Crime fiction, non-fiction, etc. I still love the sci-fi/fantasy realm as well.
My Uncle makes sure I have ample reading by providing books from his level of interest History and the Sea.

Tombstone comic

A quick sample of a pet project I'd love to undertake just for fun. A photocomic adaption of the best western ever...Tombstone.
This is a short version of the scene between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo.

Photoshopping Jak Rabbit

My son wanted me to add a background and place his two drawings on it. I found an image of the flames of the underworld. Dropped the two scans of his art in two different layers. I added some shadows using layers. Gave the Harley Bat figure a glow to set it off from the background, plus added a slight orange yellow overcast to the drawing . The Jak drawing in the foreground got a Gaussian blur to give the close to the view effect. I added two layers of shadows to his body, blurred them as well. Finally I blurred the bottom edge of the background to create that forced perspective look to match with the Jak drawing.

Cartoon sketches

Did some sketching whilst sitting at the Youth Group campout this weekend.
Fisrt up a camp leader and her bear. No it didn't really happen but sometimes I just go where my imagination heads.

Then I took a request from my pal Stan. He wanted Wally going totally from memory here's what I got.

Then I tried my hand at a version of Patrick and Spongebob.

Prowler Vector art

Had yet another car shirt to do up. This time they wanted a Prowler. Here's the wireframe vector version after a few hours of tracing and tweaking.

Here is the final color. It's going to be a simple screenprint on a black shirt so I didn't want to add too many textures to the paint job.

TARDIS console-SketchUP

A couple posts back I was playing with a TARDIS console design for a Doctor Who strip idea I had. In that post I mentioned how nice it would be to have a program I could draw the console in and then move it around so I'd have reference to draw it from various angles. Well lo and behold a friend of mine pointed me to /SketchUP It's a Google 3D rendering program. Now I've only been playing with a day or so but here's a sample of what I've done thus far. The figures are from the 3D warehouse search feature and only to help with scaling.

All done!

All done. The race truck is all vectored. Three colors, black red and white on ash grey shirts. Lots of nice halftones in this one.
One of these days I'll actually keep track of how long it takes to bang one of these out.
